Responsible Gambling
Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. If it stops being fun, help is available in New Zealand.
Play safely
- Set a budget and time limit before you start; only gamble with money you can afford to lose.
- Take regular breaks and avoid gambling when stressed, tired, or under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
- Don’t chase losses; accept that losses are part of gambling.
- Balance gambling with other activities and keep track of spend and time.
- Gambling is restricted to people aged 18+ in New Zealand (or higher where required for a specific product/service).
Warning signs
- Spending more time or money than planned.
- Borrowing, selling things, or hiding gambling.
- Chasing losses, feeling irritable when not gambling.
- Missing work/study, relationship or financial problems.
Limits & controls
If available on the relevant service/product, use tools such as spend limits, session/time limits, reminders, cooling-off (time-out), and self-exclusion. If you can’t find these tools, contact us and we’ll explain the options available.
